Plum Pear Apple Designs was started in 2008 when my then two-year-old son fell in love with a borrowed cape and just had to have one for himself. He wore it everywhere, and didn’t want to take it off for mealtime, bedtime, running errands, anything. I figured if he was going to have a cape that was his constant companion – it was at least going to be super cute! I envisioned in my head a cape in his favorite colors with his initial on it. I looked around online and in local stores and I just couldn’t find anything that fit the image in my head.

So what’s that saying — necessity breeds invention? I made a simple pattern and cut a logo out of felt and my first Superhero cape was born. My son wouldn’t take it off — it was a hit!

I’m a stay at home mom of 2 boys that hand makes each of these capes myself. You can often find me cutting felt at the dinner table, sewing emblems in the car, and begging my husband to stop along the way when I spot a new fabric store. I don’t employ anyone but I do owe a huge thanks to my mom that sometimes comes over to help me prewash and cut fabric.

I put a lot of time and love into each Superhero cape I make – because I think that every kid deserves to be a Superhero with his OWN initial on the back of his cape.
